Feeling Two-Faced? The Best Halloween Masks Ever

Share

There used to be a tradition  in France where the royals would host a masquerade ball. The  requisite was that everyone arrived wearing a mask that concealed their identity, allowing people to do what they wanted to somewhat anonymously.

Here’s a little masquerade music to inspire you…

The free spirited fun that happened at those masquerade balls can be replicated when you throw your own Halloween masked ball… all you need is the perfect mask! To that end, I’ve collected some of my favorite masks in the hopes that it will inspire you to start your own Halloween tradition of using a mask to go incognito. There aren’t as many masks on the market as there used to be, after children’s attire safety issues came into play. However, adults can still partake of the abandon inherent in wearing a mask that will conceal your identity.

To kick off our tour de France, via masks, I’d say that one of the most popular and recognizable masks around is that of the gunpowder plot itself. The Guy Fawkes mask is a symbol of political and social unrest, so donne this one if you are into lively political debate.

Next, I’d argue that one of the best masks ever created is the infamous one from the film “Scream.” While understated and not exactly scary in and of itself, it does inspire chills in people who you scare the pants off of late at night, after you jump out at them from behind an old tree. (What? Would I do that? Really? Come on!)

Undoubtedly, some of the more frightening people I’ve come across are those at heavy metal rock concerts. (Again with the disparaging remarks about my behavior? Why can’t I go to a heavy metal rock concert… it was Halloween inspiration!)  Granted, I’m not really sure who Slipknot is, but, the Slipknot mask is awfully freaky.

Now, not all masks are terrifying. If terrifying your grandkids isn’t what you had in mind, there are masks that are devoted to creating an illusion of beauty. Take the artisan carnival masks, for instance.

However, most folks wear masks for the purpose of Halloween spooking, so a little gore ( No, not THAT Gore.) in your mask might be what you are after. Check out this nasty looking facade.

If gore isn’t really your thing, you might want to consider the exotic look. Something with flare or a touch of panache. This Phoenix inspired mask is sure to draw some attention your way on Halloween.

And, lastly, I think I’m going to have to argue the point that this one is probably the most terrifying mask out there. Warning… this one is not for the weak or infirm.

(Sure, I LOVE his music as much as the next person. Thriller is one of the best Halloween albums, well, ever, but well, just love at that mug. Just look at it. THE HORROR!)

Happy Mask Hunting!
